The scholarship covers all travel costs, all study-program costs, all room and board costs and incidental costs related to the travel or study program of up to $500. The Prim Scholarship application is located on The Winston-Salem Foundation's website at http://www.wsfoundation.org/ at "List of Scholarships & Grants/Travel".

It is the student's responsibility to make sure that, along with submittal of the electronic application completed in its entirety, all supplemental materials are in the offices of The Winston-Salem Foundation by the close of business on the deadline of 10/31 (if deadline falls on a weekend, upcoming Monday is deadline). Incomplete and/or late applications will not be considered.

Supplemental materials include: 1) a grade transcript through 10th grade for juniors and through the 11th grade for seniors, 2) two recommendations as described in the application, and 3) a recent photograph (include your name on back of photo).

Interview: Applicants will be advised if they are selected for an interview. A parent must accompany the student to the interview. The Dean Prim Scholarship committee will interview candidates and select recipients in November 2008. Recipients and other applicants will be notified in writing of the scholarship committee's decisions.

American Institute for Foreign Study (AIFS) Application Process:

Once Prim Scholarship recipients have been selected, they must complete the AIFS travel and study program application. AIFS is the company that organizes and manages the China travel and study program. Again, you will not complete the AIFS application unless you are seleted for the Prim Scholarship. The agreement and contract that covers the student's travel and study program will be between the student, the student's parent(s) and AIFS. The student and parent(s) are subject to all terms and conditions as set forth by the AIFS application/contract.

The AIFS application must be completed by the student and parent by January 31 each year. Once AIFS has reviewed the student application, students will be notified and provided with additional details rgarding the travel and study program. An AIFS counselor will provide guidance with the application process and will be available to answer questions.

Distribution of the Scholarship:

The Winston-Salem Foundation through the Dean Prim Scholarship will make payments directly to the American Institute for Foreign Travel as they become due.
