Dean Prim was a native of North Carolina, residing in Yadkin County.  He served as vice president of Moxley's Store & Oil Company in Boonville, where he and wife Mayo raised their children, Billy D., Jeannie and Luanne.  Mr. Prim was active in the community through his participation with the Boonville Jaycees, where he was a charter member and president and served as North Carolina State area vice president. He was also a member of the Lions Club and the Yadkin County Parks and Recreation Commission, where he sponsored and coached many championship softball teams. Mr. Prim took an active role in the educational system by being a member of the PTA, president of the Boosters Club, and later a member of the Yadkin County Board of Education. Because of his dedication to improving the education of youth in his commmunity, the Dean Prim Scholarship Fund was established in his memory. To date more than 50 scholarships have been awarded to high school graduates.
